Satay - Singapore, Malaysia

These meat skewers are amongst my favourite South East Asian foods.

Satay is one of the more interesting foods that could tantalize your taste buds in South East Asia.

These meat skewers, come in the chicken (ayam), beef (daging) and lamb (kambing) options.

The ever so slightly burnt skewers combine a unique local BBQ seasoning and stays soft and tender despite the slightly burnt exterior. I usually find chicken to be the most consistently tender, followed by lamb then beef.

The skewers are served with a spicy peanut based sauce. For some, this sauce is what differentiates the different satay stores.

You can also get rice cakes, called ketupat, steamed in woven coconut leaves, to add some carbs to your satay protein.

I found that the Malay vendors usually produce better satay.

In Singapore, find great satay at the East Coast Park food center as well as the Lau Pa Sat satay area.
