A hybird dance by Jessica Gabrielli, reacting to changes in lighting initiated by the audience at the Peranakan Museum as part of the Singapore Night Festival.
As you step out of the Bras Basah MRT station via the Singapore Management University exit, you cannot help but feel you are in the heart of the Singapore Night Festival.
A good plan would be to catch the outdoor acts, which die down around 11pm, then exploring the museums until they close at 2am.
A stage decorated with light projections greeted me as I stepped through the doors, though I only had the chance to watch the end of a fashion show.
At the Peranakan Museum, I had the chance to watch Jessica Gabrielli’s wonderfully choreographed dance. Her routine interacted with the audience, flirting with the lights that the audience were encouraged to change.
Outside on Armenian street, the Starlight Academy showed their flashy LED lit hula hoops and flung them around to the cheers of the audience. I was a little disappointed as they didn’t have a fire show.
I’m also a food truck fan. If you’re at the festival, do take advantage of the food trucks. There was one on Armenian street with crab linguine and another behind the National Museum of Singapore. When I found them, they had run out of food, and that was about 11pm. Food is served earlier.
Between the Pernakan museum and Substation, there is an alleyway with some food and art exhibits. As of this writing, Karen Mitchell’s art display entitled Everyday Aspirations is missing 114 pieces. Please help her find her artwork!
The National Museum and Singapore Art Gallery also sported free admissions as part of the Night Festival.
Though there were many musical acts outdoors at the festival, I chose to take advantage of the free admission to the museums. The fact that I had earlier appointments and arrived late meant that the festival was dead after I was done the museums.
A good plan would be to catch the outdoor acts, which die down around 11pm, then exploring the museums until they close at 2am.
I’ll be back next week to see the rest of the festival!
