Southwestern College - No Secrets - Singapore

The Southwestern College worship outreach band performed at their concert, No Secrets, held at the Toa Payoh Methodist Church on Friday, May 17, 2013.

While travelling over in Asia, or being somewhat relocated here now, sometimes I do miss the culture on the other side of this planet. One of the things that I see quite often in North America are Christian Rock bands.

Seems like just about every church these days has a rock band to appeal to the youth, and that happens to be what I see when if I do cover church events on my beat as a photojournalist.

This time around, it was my cousin performing with his school, the Southwestern College from Kansas and their outreach group. Their concert – No Secrets.

They took their act all the way from Winfield, Kansas in the United States to Jakarta, Singapore, Klang, Teluk Intan and finally Penang.

The energetic performance along with an open and cordial talk by outreach worker Josh was quite entertaining. Make no mistake, while the songs were christian worship songs, this was really more about the band playing than any kind of evangelizing. So even if you want to enjoy the music and aren’t Christian, you can feel free to drop by and just rock on with the band.

Along with the band’s merch, my cousin is also selling his own written, produced and engineered EP.

They are still on tour, hitting Klang tomorrow, Teluk Intan on Sunday and Penang on Tuesday.

Ok, that was a plug for my cousin on my site. 🙂 Do go check them out if you’re in the area and into Christian rock music!

Admission is free!
