Lee Kuan Yew turned an island nation with barely any natural resources into one of the top GDP per capita countries in the world.
Though some Singaporeans might argue about his methods, Singapore’s success as a nation is undeniable. He was a pioneer, a builder, one who set a solid foundation upon which the nation was built and can continue to grow.
“At the end of the day, what have I got? A successful Singapore. What have I given up? My life.”
– Lee Kuan Yew
He makes his final journey today to his resting place to join his wife, his confidante, his love, who undoubtedly had a strong behind the scenes role in the forging of Singapore.
I spent quite a bit of time in and out of Singapore visiting my relatives the past few years. During that time, I have come to be amazed by and appreciated the progress that Singapore has made since I emigrated to Canada.
This is my salute to the architect of that progress.
Rest in peace Lee Kuan Yew.
